Astrid Lied, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, CRRN

Bilingual Family Nurse Practitioner & Certified Rehabilitation Specialist

Astrid joins Dr. Sherif Makar at Charis Neurology with over 20 years of diverse medical experience. As a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN), Astrid specializes in the long-term management of complex neurological conditions. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she is dedicated to removing language barriers and providing accessible, compassionate care to the Lake Mary and Central Florida community.

A Lifetime of Dedication to Neuro-Recovery

Astrid’s career is defined by her deep commitment to patient recovery. Unlike many providers who focus solely on diagnosis, Astrid holds a rare credential as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). This gives her a unique perspective on chronic neurological conditions like Stroke and TBI—focusing not just on treating the illness, but on restoring function and quality of life. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University, graduating with presidential honors.

Before joining Charis Neurology, Astrid served as a lead Nurse Practitioner at a high-volume neurology practice and spent years managing the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at the Orlando Epilepsy Center. She has managed thousands of cases involving Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease, as well as complex Migraines and Memory Disorders. Her background also includes acute care in Spine & Orthopedics, giving her an expert eye for spine-related neurological pain.

Astrid believes that healthcare works best when communication is clear. As a fluent Spanish speaker, she is passionate about serving our Hispanic community, ensuring that patients and families fully understand their diagnosis and treatment plan without the need for a translator. She combines academic rigor with a warm, personal approach that earned her a nomination for the prestigious Daisy Award for compassionate nursing care.

Astrid brings a "Rehabilitation Mindset" to neurology. Because of her background as a CRRN, she understands that a diagnosis like Parkinson’s or MS changes your daily life. She focuses her care on functional goals—whether that is improving your gait, managing migraine triggers to get you back to work, or optimizing medication to reduce side effects.

Restoring Function, Renewing Hope.

Astrid is proud to offer full neurological consultations in Spanish. She believes that fear often comes from a lack of understanding. by removing the language barrier, she empowers Spanish-speaking patients to take control of their health with confidence and dignity.
